Abstract
This study presents the design of a photovoltaic system for the administrative building under construction at the Universidad Politécnica Salesiana, Cuenca, with the objective of covering 20 percent of its energy demand and complying with EDGE certification. Solar irradiation and site conditions were analyzed for the selection of panels, inverters and electrical components, ensuring adequate sizing. For economic feasibility, indicators such as Net Present Value (NPV), Internal Rate of Return (IRR) and Investment Payback Period (IRP) were applied. In addition, the environmental impact was estimated by analyzing the amount of fuel saved and the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions by using a renewable energy source. The results confirm that the system meets the energy target, is economically viable and has a positive environmental impact, promoting the use of renewable energy in institutional infrastructures.
