Abstract
The evolution of journalistic culture in Ecuador is a subject of vital importance for all communication professionals and society in general. The social, political, economic, cultural andtechnological context affects its mainstreaming, defining the development of it through history. The aim of this work is to establish the theoretical and practical basis of the journalistic cultureof Ecuador from the end of the 19th century to the present. The research is divided into twophases, it has been decided to disseminate the first phase, which analyzes and compares the main textual documents recorded in different libraries of Ecuador, allowing a comprehensive view of the object of study from the Ethnomethodology. Hermeneutical techniques are used, which allow an approximation of the historical evolution of Ecuadorian journalism through the thematic analysis of textual content. Different discourses are decoded applying open coding to discover and develop the concepts, establishing the evolutionary development of the theme. The main contribution is the establishment of an evolutionary reference of Ecuadorian journalism, which reveals an analysis of its "yesterday" to understand the reason for its "today", which facilitates the professional practice of communicators.
