Abstract
The conservation, access, distribution, use and final disposal of water are constant concerns, especially in rural areas where indigenous and peasant communities have implemented their own forms of management and administration. The text describes how water generates power in community territories; describes the way in which communities implement strategies for the conservation of water sources; examines water as a fundamental axis for community development; identifies the implementation of collective-community actions in the face of neoliberalism; and finally analyzes the problems of wastewater management. Water for the People gathers seven experiences from different sectors of the country. Three articles from research projects and four degree theses by students of the Management for Sustainable Local Development program of the Salesian Polytechnic University contribute to the analysis of community water management. We trust that this publication will feed the discussion on the defense of water, the concepts, methods and practices that make political ecology a particularly active and transcendent space in the lives of peoples, indigenous and peasant communities and society as a whole.
