Abstract

This article describes an algorithm for adaptive distance protection in a sub transmission system, considering operating conditions with topology changes due to an abnormal condition, power failure or a natural disaster, including the effect of adjacent generation in the zones of protection of the distance relay, with the incorporation in mixed participation of renewable energies. Two study scenarios are proposed, in the first case a contingency is simulated, as a consequence the transmission systems change the initial topology. The electrical protections are able to recognize the new scenario and are automatically re-parameterized. The second case includes the entry of renewable energy generation at a specific point in the electrical power system, the algorithm is executed and the protections are recalculated automatically. The objective of automatic coordination allows the operator to restore the sensitivity, selectivity and reliability of the electrical protection system in the shortest possible time.
