Abstract

Game-based learning (GBL) is an innovative and effective methodology for 21st-century education. The objective of this study is to analyze GBL as a contribution to literacy teaching and the development of creative thinking, enabling the design of strategies that promote innovative learning. The research was conducted using the action research method, based on a systematic review and documentary LATAM Revista Latinoamericana de Ciencias Sociales y Humanidades, Asunción, Paraguay. ISSN en línea: 2789-3855, diciembre, 2025, Volumen VI, Número 6 p 808.analysis of the works of various authors published in the last five years. The results of this review study show that “GBL” promotes student motivation, enabling learning experiences that facilitate the acquisition of literacy skills, creative and critical thinking, deep understanding of content, and long-term knowledge retention, leading to meaningful learning. It also develops divergent thinking, social, emotional, and axiological skills. The sample for this study consisted of 36 elementary school students who developed content under the guidelines of game-based learning. These inputs were inspired by the most popular games in the context, and virtual games were also integrated into classroom work. The application of these strategies developed a taste for reading and writing and creative thinking, generating a climate of joy and interest among students, elements that facilitated the comprehension of the texts. Likewise, this research reveals that teachers lack training in this area.
