Abstract

This book is entitled Contemporary Educational Challenges: Salesian Education for Innovation and Participation in Contexts of Crisis, and it is the second book produced by the Academic Network IUS Education Group (EG). It collects the proceedings of the VI Seminar of the IUS EG that was held at the Salesian Polytechnic University, Quito Headquarters from 26 to 28 April 2022. The Seminar and its proceedings, which are included in this book, constitute the point of arrival of the IUS EG’s programmatic project for the three-year period 2018-2021 within the framework of the common action plan, thus presenting the three areas of work of the network set out in the Common Action Plan, which are: knowledge production, networking and common action. The call for participation in the Seminar and presentation of papers was in November 2021. The abstracts of the papers were received and approved in February 2022. A high-level scientific committee composed of professors from the following universities was in charge of reviewing and approving the abstracts: Politécnica Salesiana of Ecuador, Católica Cardenal Silva Henríquez of Chile, and UNISAL of America, in Sao Paulo-Brazil. The Seminar was organized in three thematic axes, which compose this book: “Educational-pastoral challenges of Salesian higher education in contexts of crisis”, “Forms and spaces for youth participation”, and “Educational innovations for higher education in frontier contexts”. Each thematic axis had a lecture, a panel with participation of experts from different IUS of America and Europe and the presentation of research results. The first axis discusses the contemporary challenges facing Salesian higher education in general and the faculties of education Introduction 22 as trainers of educators, among other things, to the pandemic effects and post-pandemic contexts as “new normality”, and the challenge of accompaniment as an educational strategy. The axis begins with the principal conference lectured by Father Miguel Ángel García Morcuende, General Councilor for Youth Ministry, and it is followed by the works: “Perspective of professors and students of UPS regarding COVID-19 in online learning” by Father Juan Cárdenas and Pablo Farfán, “Motivated professor as learning environment” by Father Alejandro Rodríguez, “Integral ecology and interculturality. Which representation and experiences in university students” by Anna Pileri, Michela Drusian, Juan Sabino López, Marian García, and Roberto Santoro, “The representation of European university students spanning from the environmental ecosystem to the human ecosystem” by Davide Girardi, Claudia Chiavarino, and Alessio Rocci, and “The presence of the professor, the didactic element in hybrid modality” by Sara Guadalupe Sánchez.
