Abstract

The 2030 Agenda of the United Nations Organization represents the transition towards a more sustainable consumption attitude. Therefore, it is essential to investigate the variables that deter-mine the change in consumers’ attitude towards the Sustainable Development Goals. This work’s objective was to carry out a diagnosis on the responsible consumption habits of the citizens of the city of Machala, Republic of Ecuador. For this, modeling of structural equations was applied. The results showed that the environmental attitude and knowledge determined the behavior of the responsible consumer. We can conclude that sustainable consumption models need not only con-sumers’ participation but also the regulatory intervention of policymakers and the commitment of companies in their productive activities. In the future, we can replicate the methodology used for similar investigations in other study areas.
