Comparative Study of Optimization Strategies of Galvanized Steel Ventilation Duct Production Using Discrete Event Simulation Software

Abstract

This study examines Ecuador’s heating, ventilation, and air conditioning company that manually manufactures galvanized iron ducts. The company has been struggling to meet production orders due to a bottleneck in the manual bending process. By modeling and validating the duct production process using FlexSim and simulating the replacement of the manual bending machine with a hydraulic bending machine, the study found that this automation could significantly increase daily production from 20 to 31 ducts. This improvement reduces process downtime and greatly enhances overall efficiency, providing a clear path forward for the company. The production process model was validated through a confidence interval generated from 100 iterations, achieving a 95% confidence interval of 20.23 ± 1.22 ducts per day. This validation confirms the model’s accuracy in comparison to the actual production rate of 20 ducts per day.
