Abstract
Due industries need speed and impact on their systems, the implementation of control networks based on the Internet of Things (IoT) will allow field-mounted devices and sensors to be connected, as well as control devices directly to the cloud. This article compares conventional IoT communication protocols; CoAP and AMQP, in an automated system, using low-cost devices such as Raspberry Pi boards. The results show that CoAP is designed for embedded systems, however, it does not provide a satisfactory communication speed, while AMQP is more complex, has no official support and needs large installation packages; But it provides faster communication speed.
