Abstract

Over the years, the advancement of technology has allowed the evolution of new ways of acquiring knowledge, researching and further analyzing the possibilities to develop education. Considering the importance of prehospital care and the lack of instruction on this subject to the population, there is a lack of education programs. Methodology: a quasi-experimental study was carried out, with updated bibliography a MOOC course was created on the EdX platform through the use of videos, complementary readings and forums, the community was taught about first aid. To determine whether knowledge was increased, a pre- and post-intervention knowledge assessment was used, and a satisfaction survey was administered at the end of the course. Results: a total of 544 people between 14 and 69 years of age and of all educational levels were enrolled; more than half of them took the final test and completed the course, and 45.04% (n= 245) passed the course with more than 70% of the grade. The average score of the 210 people who took the previous knowledge test was 66.47 ± 15.94 points; and they obtained a final test score of 88.89 ± 9.08 points, with a statistically significant difference (p= 1.457E-49). In the satisfaction survey 69.17% (n=92) of the respondents agreed with the contents and the method applied, with few difficulties highlighting the time invested in the course. Conclusions: With the results obtained, despite the little publicity the course was well received, after the analysis of the averages of the grades obtained in the previous knowledge test and final test a significant difference is obtained. In the surveys, most people agreed with the topics and didactics, so this could be the beginning of several courses of this type to reach the community massively and improve prehospital care.
