Abstract
This book, the result of a collaboration between the Salesian Polytechnic University of Ecuador and the Friedrich Alexander University of Erlangen-Nürnberg, offers a comprehensive and multidisciplinary view of climate change in the Andean region. It covers everything from unique ecosystems to the social and political dynamics affecting communities, inviting reflection on how this global crisis is transforming one of the most diverse regions in the world. Based on research presented at an international conference in Germany and recent studies, the text not only explains the impact of global warming on ecosystems, such as dry forests and coastal areas, but also addresses key human issues: How do Indigenous and urban communities perceive and cope with climate change? What role do gender, ethnicity, and politics play in adaptation strategies? With a scientifically sound yet accessible approach, this book seeks to answer these questions from an interdisciplinary perspective. Furthermore, it explores current trends in the Andean countries, reflects on the challenges of climate breakdown, and considers transformative solutions based on resilience and cooperation.
