Abstract

The chapter Challenges of teacher training for intercultural bilingual education by María Sol Villagómez contributes to the discussion on the training of intercultural bilingual teachers in Ecuador and the Andean Region, based on the analysis of the trajectory and scope of a particular program: the Intercultural Bilingual Education Program at the Salesian Polytechnic University. It shows the complexity and challenges presented by the training of this type of teachers, and suggests ways of working on a daily basis in similar teacher training programs. The training of intercultural bilingual teachers requires the implementation of alternative curricular, pedagogical and didactic development formats that take into account the cultural characteristics of the target population. consider the cultural characteristics of future teachers, but also the characteristics and dynamics of the contexts and subjects in which they will work.
