Abstract
Biological wastewater treatment consists of the removal of biodegradable contaminants from water by microorganisms, generating a biomass that constitutes a sludge, which requires further extraction. Mathematical models are a very important tool for analyzing the properties of a system (stability, operating conditions, control, etc.), as well as for predicting the behavior of the process through numerical simulations and designing and implementing control strategies.
