Abstract
Why is biodiversity important? Beyond feeling proud because Ecuador is rich in different forms of life and ecosystems, we must take into account that food, medicine, the provision of goods for construction, for handicrafts, and to cover many needs of local populations depend on biodiversity. This publication analyzes the biological richness of Ecuador, its importance, the threats that revolve around biodiversity and some false solutions that are proposed for its conservation.
