Abstract

This paper presents empirical evidence on the financial situation of banks in Ecuador in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, with the purpose of understanding the incidence of financial decisions made by the private financial sector. The scope of this study is descriptive and data were obtained from the monthly financial bulletins of small and medium-sized private banks, published on the website of the Superintendency of Banks. For the analysis of the financial situation of the banks, the indicators liquidity, ROA, ROE, net margin, indebtedness, microeconomic efficiency, financial efficiency were used. The results revealed that the COVID-19 pandemic did not have an unfavorable impact on the financial situation of small and medium-sized private banks in Ecuador.
