Abstract
Clinical psychology, as a fundamental discipline in the study and treatment of mental health, has advanced significantly in recent decades. Research methods have evolved to adapt to the changing needs of society and the diverse populations requiring psychological care. This book, Advances in Clinical Psychology: Exploring Qualitative Research in Mothers, Older Adults, and Patients with Alzheimer’s, offers a deep and comprehensive perspective through the lens of qualitative research, providing a rich and nuanced understanding of the lived experiences of these groups. The use of qualitative methodologies in clinical psychology allows for a deeper understanding of psychological phenomena by focusing on subjectivity and personal narratives. This approach is particularly valuable when working with populations such as mothers, older adults, and patients with Alzheimer’s, whose experiences are often not fully captured through traditional quantitative methods. The chapter dedicated to mothers explores the emotional and psychological complexities of motherhood, including experiences of stress, anxiety, and postpartum depression. Qualitative research in this field enables a detailed analysis of mothers' narratives, revealing how they construct their maternal identity and navigate the challenges associated with parenting. Through in-depth interviews and focus groups, this book uncovers family dynamics and sociocultural influences that affect their mental well-being. The aging of the population is a global phenomenon that presents numerous challenges for mental health. This book addresses quality of life, functional status, depression, and cognitive decline in older adults. Qualitative research in this context highlights the voices of older adults themselves, allowing for a more comprehensive understanding of their needs and experiences. Life stories, case studies, and narrative interviews provide a holistic view of how older adults perceive their own aging and manage life transitions. Alzheimer’s and other dementias pose a significant burden for both patients and their caregivers. Qualitative research on this topic focuses on the subjective experiences of living with the disease and its impact on family relationships. Through methods such as semi-structured interviews and participant observation, this book explores the emotional challenges and coping strategies of patients and their families. This approach makes it possible to identify unmet needs and areas where clinical intervention can be improved. This book not only highlights the importance of qualitative research in clinical psychology but also underscores the need for person-centered approaches to understanding and addressing mental health issues. Through detailed studies and in-depth analyses, this work aims to inspire professionals and students to value and apply qualitative methods in their practice and research, thereby contributing to a better understanding and treatment of psychological disorders in.
