This article presents a preliminary study for the installation of an automated public lighting system based on solar energy with an energy saving approach within a housing complex located in the Valley of Chillos-Ecuador in order to benefit 30 families. The work was carried out in three stages: online surveys, programming of the system and schematization of the system in model 1:100. The surveys helped to know the behavior / use of lighting by people, followed by the programming of the system helped to determine the materials to use and finally the construction of the model, making a step-by-step scheme to follow so that it serves as a basis for replication in other regions. In addition, direct radiation data have been taken into account, resulting in the provinces of Pichincha and Loja being the most suitable for high solar energy efficiency. With the final results, a detailed analysis was made in two axes: economic and environmental, both economic to show that with a low investment can implement the system and the environment to stop relying on conventional energy.
