Abstract

This paper presents the development of an augmented reality (AR) platform designed to preserve the myths and legends from the Chordeleg canton, Ecuador. The problem addressed is the loss of intangible cultural heritage due to modernization and the lack of documentation. The objective is to use advanced technologies, such as Unity, Vuforia, and Firebase, to create an engaging and interactive experience that preserves and disseminates this cultural legacy. The methodology followed the SCRUM management framework, structured into four phases: technological exploration, data collection, business logic and data access development, and platform validation. The application was developed using the Model-View-Controller (MVC) pattern and integrates REST web services for authentication and data management, ensuring security and scalability for future updates. The results demonstrate high levels of user satisfaction, with 57.1% of users being satisfied and 35.7% highly satisfied. Additionally, 85.7% of users preferred 3D representations, underscoring the effectiveness of AR in education. The innovation of this platform lies in its application of AR to intangible cultural heritage, providing an immersive learning experience. Future work includes expanding content, improving compatibility with various devices, and integrating new features such as social sharing to further enhance its educational and cultural impact.
