Abstract

For 2013, the ICCO (International Cocoa Commercialization Organization) ranks Ecuador as the sixth largest cocoa producer in the world, with a volume of 190,000 metric tons. According to the same source, this year, world cocoa production will be distributed 69.8% in Africa, 16.1% in America and 14.1% in Asia and Oceania. Ivory Coast is the main cocoa producer with a volume of 1 470 metric tons (ICCO, 2013). ANECACAO (Asociación Nacional de Exportadores de Cacao de Ecuador), states that 5% of world cocoa production corresponds to fine or flavor cocoa, with Ecuador accounting for 63% of that production worldwide.
