Abstract

n the field of communication research, Armand Mattelart emerges as a researcher of notable relevance, whose workIt is essential. Born in Belgium in 1936, his academic career stands out for a deep exploration of concepts that addressthe intersection between communication, globalization of knowledge and the pillars of media culture. Throughout its career, Mattelart has distinguished itself by a critical approach, marked by a subtle and reasoned articulation of theories that facilitate a contemporary understanding of communication and responsible management of information. After completing his studies at the Catholic University ofLeuven, Mattelart began its professional career in Latin America in 1960, initially establishing itself in Santiago de Chile, a country then governed by Salvador Allende and which it would later live under the Pinochet dictatorship. These experiences provided Mattelart with a solid foundation to develop a thorough analysis of the critical role of communication in society, highlighting how Challenging political contexts, marked by significant cultural transformations, pose constant challenges in the transmission of information.
