Abstract

This study shows an efficient way to manage plastic waste by obtaining fuels; the process of pyrolysis of polyethylene terephthalate, high density polyethylene and polystyrene, the most generated plastic waste at the Salesian Polytechnic University, is developed; in the research it is determined that the waste that produces the highest percentage of liquid fraction is polystyrene; however, according to the analysis, the best quality is the high density polyethylene considered as medium crude. However, according to the analysis, the best quality is the High Density Polyethylene, considered as medium crude. According to the chromatography analysis, this research shows that the liquid fractions of the pyrolysis process of plastic waste contain substances that are part of fuels and oils, which confirms that we are obtaining liquid fuels with similar characteristics to the traditional ones and that can be used to generate energy in combustion engines.
