Abstract
This study presents the application of the HEC-HMS model for the hydrological modeling of the Captacay micro-basin, located in the Gualaceo canton, Azuay province, Ecuador. The main objective is to evaluate the hydrological behavior of the microbasin, using an approach based on morphometric analysis, precipitation estimation using Thiessen polygons and water balance using the Thornthwaite method. In addition, Intensity-Duration-Frequency (IDF) curves were developed and the theoretical flow was calculated using the “QCIA” method. The results of the model, adjusted through the sensitivity of parameters such as the curve number (CN) and the lag time (Tlag), reveal that the micro-basin has a theoretical flow rate of close to 0.39 m³/s. This work offers a comprehensive analysis of the Captacay micro-basin and provides key information for the sustainable management of water resources in the region.
