Abstract

The Anthropologies Made in Latin America Collection, in which these volumes on Ecuador are framed, has been promoted for several years by the Latin American Association of Anthropology (ALA). Today there are three published volumes on Argentina, three on Colombia, one on Peru, one on Uruguay and two on Venezuela. The volumes on Chile and Mexico are in the process of being published. The ALA has been the propitiator of the different volumes of the Collection, as an invitation to the editors of each country to share with other colleagues from Latin America and the Caribbean a curated work on what they consider the most relevant expressions of what we could call their respective national anthropologies. Some editors decided to work on materials already published, others made calls for new writings. All the editors had full freedom to define the criteria and scope of the included texts, since from the ALA there has not been a standardizing effort in what we imagine and do as anthropology. Thus, in the volumes of each country, it was the editors who defined, from their contexts and sensitivities, the criteria that will constitute the corpus to be shared.
