Analysis of the Evolution of the Safety of Generations of Nuclear Fission Reactors

Abstract

Today, there is a debate about how reliable nuclear power is in terms of safety. Some countries are prohibiting their proliferation, while others support the construction of new nuclear power plants. There are multiple risks of its implementation not only for the environment but also for public health. This article discusses the evolution of nuclear fission reactor safety features through generations to improve reliability. Information is included on how nuclear power plants ensure safety and what the real risks are when producing nuclear power. In addition, some accidents in the past are described, as well as the management of radioactive waste. Finally, some standards and attributes for energy production are also presented. The objective of this analysis is to provide different perspectives of the technical implications of nuclear energy to offer a clear understanding of the dangers of nuclear waste. The focus is not only on the role of international regulations, but also on past accidents that have led to the development of generations of nuclear fission reactors. In this work, the importance of supporting the non-proliferation of nuclear energy is explained until real solutions are found for the threat of nuclear radioactivity.
