Abstract
The dependence on fossil fuels to generateelectricity in Ecuador must be reduced to mitigate economic andenvironmental issues. Therefore, new alternatives are sought forenergy generation and promote energy security. An alternative tofeed the electrical demand is to introduce solar thermaltechnologies for power production. The objective of this researchis to decipher adequate locations for power production throughthe placement of parabolic trough collectors (PTC). Appropriatesites will be identified in concordance with differentrequirements, through a multicriteria technique. Three potentialplaces in the province of Azuay will be analyzed, and they willbe characterized by their climate, geographical area, proximity toa power substation and water resources availability. The bestlocation between the option was obtained, then multicriteriatechniques were useful in solving problems in energy planning inthe province of Azuay. These techniques allow sustainabilityaccording to existing resources in the area.
