Abstract

Although the Internet was born in 1966 for military purposes within the Department of Defense of the United States with the name of ARPANET, the scientist of British computing Tim Berners-Lee is considered the father of this, as we know it today. The World Wide Web has undergone different mutations since its first version 1.0 that appeared in the 90s, pass-ing through web 2.0, 3.0, until reaching the latest version of this, 4.0. Web 1.0 was unidi-rectional and the user could only consume content no possibility of interacting in any way. Latorre (2018) comments that, in 2004, web 2.0 allows sharing information through social networks, blogs, forums. At this time, we have gone from being mere consumers of infor-mation to prosumers. The term prosumer was coined by Alvin Toffler in the 1980s referring to the ability to generate content, create ideas and opinions that can be exercised some influence on other people. Currently, most users found at this point in the evolution of the internet. Later in 2010, it appears the semantic web or 3.0 that uses a language on the network so that applications connect and communicate with each other and get better experiences for the users. Finally, and also following Latorre (2018), web 4.0 had its begin-nings in 2016 and focuses on more predictive behavior thanks to metadata and Big Data to anticipate and offer what we can want or desire in a certain moment.
