Abstract
While there are multiple causes that have generated this massive mobilization of Venezuelan migrants, among which stand out the economic crisis, the devaluation of the national currency against the dollar, the fall in the price of oil, the high level of unemployment, these have caused a massive exodus of Venezuelan citizens to various Latin American countries, in fact, the data provided by the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs (2017) 1,426,372 Venezuelans have been displaced around the world. Specifically in Ecuador, the Social Science in Humanitarian Action (2018) report estimates an average of 2,600 Venezuelans entered Ecuador every day. Therefore, the population of Venezuelans in the country is estimated at 220,000 including that more than 50% are children and adolescents. This intensive mobilization has produced a gradual increase in xenophobia towards the Venezuelan collective. Therefore, the general objective is to analyze the xenophobic discourse of cuencanos Facebook groups towards Venezuelan migrants, for this, we seek to examine the discourse of the publications of the Facebook accounts belonging to the local newspapers El Mercurio and El Tiempo regarding Venezuelan migration between April 2018 and January 2019 recognizing the typologies of pejorative character made by users in the accounts regarding Venezuelan migration in order to determine patterns of discourse present in the publications and establish the perceived image of the population of Cuenca towards Venezuelans in social networks.
