Abstract

Longer span lengths, weight reduction because of the use of steel structure and lack of control cause that buildings present walking vibration. In this investigation ten buildings were analyzed. These buildings were designed using the Ecuadorian Construction Code. The walking vibration analysis were made using software and analytical methods such as Murray, SCI and Hivoss. Murray was the most efficient method because it developed a meticulous and detailed process. The investigation showed that even though the buildings fulfill with the seismic design standard, they had walking vibration problems; whereby this scientific paper proposed an alternative to correct these errors using torsional bracing, the use of torsional bracing allowed to reduce the walking acceleration ratio between 24.19 % and 35.29 %.
