Abstract

In the present study, the analysis of the mobility matrix in the Historic Center of the city of Cuenca and its relation with air quality is detailed, with the aim of establishing a conclusive and valid analysis about the influence of vehicular traffic on the air quality. The data collection of the weather variables was taken from the Universidad Politécnica Salesiana’s station and for the polluting gases, the data gathering was carried out through the Enterprise of Mobility (EMOV-EP), and it is done in the automatic station located in the Historic Center. These data are: CO, O3, NO, NO2, NOX, SO2 and PM2.5. In addition, meteorological data was also recollected such as: atmospheric pressure, room temperature, relative humidity, wind speed and solar radiation. Finally, data collection of vehicular traffic indexes was done using Google Maps, then the hours of greatest emission of polluting gases were determined. Subsequently, an analysis was carried out between the work week and weekend in order to verify the difference in emissions. As a last step, for the validation of the data, an inferential statistical analysis was carried out using the ANOVA p-value, a Principal Components Analysis (PCA) was also performed to verify the variables that provide more information to the study.
