Abstract
Ecological culture in higher education seeks to create a university community that assumes environmental responsibility in personal and professional development. The main objective of this article was to analyze the role of higher education in promoting an ecological culture focused on sustainable water management and environmental protection. The methodology was based on a cooperative work approach, with the participation of university students through focus groups, for the exchange of ideas, joint reflection, and collective construction. The results indicate that environmental education is strengthened within the community, and students recognize the importance of water as a vital and non-renewable resource. The role of university education was analyzed, and the key aspects of awareness and commitment to socio-environmental issues among university students were assessed. Initiatives were created within the university with guidelines to strengthen environmental education. It is concluded that environmental education and a water culture are fundamental pillars for the formation of conscious, critical citizens committed to caring for the environment. In this sense, educational strategies focused on environmental awareness not only contribute to learning but also to social transformation from within academia.
