Transparency in Public Information on Chinese Extractive Industries in Ecuador (Phase 1)

This project addresses the need to evaluate the quality and transparency of information disseminated on the website of the Coordinating Ministry of Strategic Sectors, specifically concerning Chinese extractive companies managing state assets. Despite the existence of a robust legal framework, such as the LOTAIP of 2004, which mandates these private entities (contracted by the State) to publish public information to facilitate citizen oversight, it is observed that available digital resources are not being fully utilized to offer quality information. The main objective is to determine the extent to which the LOTAIP is applied by the Ministry and associated companies in publishing their data. The proposed methodology relies on a qualitative content document analysis. This involves selecting and evaluating specific records, such as official websites, contracts of the Chinese extractive companies, and published reports, using defined criteria to measure the transparency and quality of the information available to the public.<br/><br/><b>Goal</b>: <br/>To evaluate compliance with the Transparency and Access to Information Law (LOTAIP) regarding the information published by the Coordinating Ministry of Strategic Sectors concerning Chinese extractive companies, in order to identify areas for improvement in the dissemination of public data.<br/><br/><b>Research lines</b>: <br/>Communication, development and politics
