Description
This research project focuses on analyzing the fundamental role played by school textbooks in the planning and execution of the educational process in basic education (Language, Mathematics, and Social Sciences) within Quito's schools. The study addresses a historical issue, tracing the evolution of school textbooks in Ecuador since the late 19th century, highlighting the transition from recognized authors to the predominance of anonymous publishing houses (such as L.N.S., Santillana, SM, etc.) and the involvement of the Ministry of Education. The economic and ideological influence that the textbook market exerts on the curriculum is acknowledged. The methodology employed is case analysis, where each textbook used in a specific grade level is treated as an individual case study. A minimum of eight classes will be observed, analyzing predefined categories using structured forms, and interviews will be conducted with teachers and authorities to deeply understand how and why these resources are utilized within the school culture and daily pedagogical development.

Goal:
To determine the role that school textbooks play in the planning and development of the teaching-learning process in basic education within the areas of Language, Mathematics, and Social Sciences in educational institutions in the city of Quito.

Research lines:
Curricular discourses and meanings that guide the curriculum
