The Alliance for Progress and Developmentalism in Ecuador: 1961-1978

This research project focuses on the case study of Ecuador to evaluate the impact of the Alliance for Progress (ALPRO) on industrial development and structural changes in the country between 1961 and 1978. The central problem addressed is how ALPRO's assistance policies spurred significant transformations, including the 1964 agrarian reform, the establishment of the National Housing Board (JNV), and the creation of the National Center for Economic Development (CENDES). The methodology primarily involves archival research, utilizing primary documentary sources to reconstruct the national context and subsequent impacts on wealth redistribution. Documents will be consulted in key archives such as the Intermediate Archive, the Central Bank Archive, the National History Archive's newspaper library, and digital repositories of agencies like JUNAPLA, CENDES, JNV, and USAID. Findings will be presented to the research group “ALPRO and Developmentalism in Latin America” and potentially published in a collective book, contributing to the historical-scientific knowledge of US foreign policy in the region.<br/><br/><b>Goal</b>: <br/>To analyze the influence of the Alliance for Progress (ALPRO) as a US foreign policy on the economic and social transformations in Ecuador between 1961 and 1978.
