Socioeconomic Study of the Economically Active Population of Guayas Province (ESPEAG)

Project Details

Description

This interdisciplinary research project addresses the complex socioeconomic reality of the Economically Active Population (EAP) in the Guayas province, Ecuador. Faced with persistent challenges of unemployment, underemployment, and labor informality, exacerbated by the recent health crisis, the study seeks to characterize living conditions, access to basic services, and employment quality in this key region for the national economy. Using a mixed methodological approach, the research team will conduct surveys and interviews across the province's 25 cantons. The analysis focuses on critical variables such as income, purchasing power, and education levels, aiming to provide updated data that serves as input for the formulation of effective public policies. The expected impact transcends academia, seeking to influence decision-making by state agencies and non-governmental organizations. By proposing concrete alternatives for decent work and economic growth, the project aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), specifically in reducing poverty and inequality, while promoting comprehensive development for the productive workforce of Guayas.

Goal:
Analyze the socioeconomic reality of the Economically Active Population (EAP) in the Guayas province to identify the problems affecting their development and propose alternatives to improve their quality of life.

Research lines:
Data science
