Description
The Water and Sewerage Department of Cañar Canton faces critical challenges in inspecting its sewer network, which is currently performed manually. This method exposes workers to health and safety risks and lacks the precision needed for effective diagnosis, leading to unnecessary repairs and high costs. Existing commercial solutions are prohibitive due to high import costs.
This technological development project proposes the creation of an inspection robot specifically designed to operate in 200mm to 600mm pipes. The team, led by the GIDTEC group at the Salesian Polytechnic University, will integrate high-resolution cameras, tilt sensors, and remote control software for real-time data capture.
The implementation of this prototype aims to optimize infrastructure management, reduce operational costs, and, fundamentally, eliminate the need for personnel to physically enter the pipes. With a focus on sustainability and technology transfer, the project will not only benefit Cañar Canton but will also serve as a foundation for future innovations in industrial network monitoring.<br/><br/><b>Goal</b>: <br/>Develop a sewer pipe inspection robot for diameters between 200mm and 600mm for the Cañar Canton, improving the efficiency, safety, and precision of network maintenance.
