Bovine mastitis represents a critical challenge for the dairy industry, causing significant economic losses and affecting product quality. Traditionally, somatic cell count (SCC) has been the standard, but differential somatic cell count (DSCC) and its relationship with leukocytes offer a more sensitive alternative for the early detection of subclinical mastitis.
This applied research project, developed by the NUNKUK WAKAN group, will analyze milk and blood samples from cows in the Pichincha province. Using flow cytometry and hematological analyzers, variations in these parameters will be evaluated based on factors such as breed, age, and lactation stage, establishing significant statistical correlations.
The expected results include the validation of a complementary diagnostic tool that will allow producers to implement more effective monitoring strategies. This will not only reduce economic losses due to discarded milk and veterinary costs but will also promote more sustainable dairy production, improving the safety of the final product for the consumer and optimizing animal welfare.<br/><br/><b>Goal</b>: <br/>To establish the relationship between differential somatic cell count (DSCC) and leukocyte count to identify early indicators of subclinical mastitis in dairy farms in the Pichincha province.
