Putting the Body into Research: Openings and Closures of Narrative Productions (Phase 1)

Project Details

Description

This project addresses the limitations and possibilities of the Narrative Productions (PN) method, developed by Balasch and Montenegro, within the context of social research, particularly from feminist and decolonial perspectives. PN, aligned with situated knowledge and dialogism, aims to construct world versions through the articulation between the researcher and participants, granting agency over textualized material and promoting polyphony and theoretical diffraction. However, practical experience has revealed difficulties, such as participant disinterest or the perceived limitation of the written word in embodying emergent knowledge. The research focuses on epistemic tensions when applying PN in Ecuadorian contexts, questioning how intersectionality (class, ethnicity, gender) affects the relationship with written and oral language. The core objective is to explore how PN can function as decolonial pedagogical practices and, fundamentally, to seek mechanisms to 'oralize' the research and return findings to the protagonists in a subjectively meaningful way, overcoming closures imposed by the written format. The methodology involves focus groups, narrative production for a theatrical script, participatory action research, and a Delphi Group to transform limitations into dissemination opportunities.

Goal:
To contribute to the methodological debate on feminist and decolonial research through a process of reflexivity concerning narrative productions, seeking mechanisms to embody the research and return knowledge to the protagonists through languages alternative to the written word.

Research lines:
Political, social and community psychology
