Proposal for a measurement methodology of non-ionizing radiation emitted by wireless communication technologies of portable devices (NIR)

Project Details

Description

This project addresses the critical need to update the measurement methods for non-ionizing radiation (NIR) emitted by portable wireless devices, as current procedures are outdated compared to rapid technological evolution. Global concern regarding health risks associated with NIR, classified by the WHO as a possible carcinogen (Group 2B), underscores the urgency for accurate measurements. The proposed methodology begins with an exhaustive review of the state-of-the-art in scientific literature and international measurement systems used by regulatory bodies in developed countries. Subsequently, measurement procedures will be defined by referencing key standards from organizations such as the ITU and ICNIRP, endorsed by the WHO. The project will conclude with laboratory and field testing to validate and refine the defined procedures. The ultimate goal is to conceive a robust and reliable measurement methodology that can be proposed as a new national and even international standard for assessing human exposure to NIR generated by wireless technologies.

Goal:
To propose a measurement methodology for non-ionizing radiation (NIR) emitted by wireless communication technologies in portable devices, aiming to establish a more accurate and updated national and international standard.

Research lines:
Electromagnetic exposure of portable devices
