This project addresses the issue of intensive agrochemical use in broccoli cultivation in Ecuador, which has led to resistance in pathogens like Alternaria spp. (causing "black spot") and increased fruit residues. The primary goal is to validate the efficacy of indigenous strains of the bacterium Bacillus subtilis as a biological control agent (AMCB). Following initial isolation and identification of promising strains, the methodology focuses on subjecting these strains to rigorous efficiency testing. Initially, controlled greenhouse trials will be conducted, manipulating humidity and temperature, to evaluate the incidence and severity of the disease caused by Alternaria spp. after applying the biocontrol agent. Subsequently, field efficacy tests will be performed under typical management conditions, comparing the selected strains against currently used commercial phytosanitary products.
