This project addresses the challenge of Alternaria spp. diseases in broccoli production, which currently relies heavily on chemical pesticides, leading to resistance and harmful residues. The main goal is to develop a sustainable biological alternative by evaluating native strains of Bacillus subtilis, a bacterium known to produce antifungal compounds like subtilin and iturins. The initiative is in an advanced stage, focusing on formulating compounds based on strains previously validated at laboratory and greenhouse levels. The methodology involves designing substrates for mass propagation of B. subtilis, cell counting, establishing field broccoli crops, applying the biological control agent, and finally evaluating the incidence and severity of Alternaria spp. under the applied treatments.
