Political Participation of Youth and Youth Associationalism

This project focuses on the study of youth political participation, addressing the dynamics of Youth Associative Forms (FAJ) both within and outside established institutional channels. The main objective is to examine how these organizations structure themselves, what repertoires of collective action they employ, and what their perceptions of politics are. The research is framed within a field of study marked by two trends: interaction with official politics and practices carried out outside the established system. A conceptual perspective is adopted that distinguishes between social and political participation, acknowledging the difficulty in drawing clear lines between the two and the potential for the politicization of social actions. Methodologically, a qualitative approach is prioritized, based on the co-production of information and intersubjective dialogue with participants. Techniques such as thematized conversation, workshops, and ethnography are employed, adapting procedures to the specificity of each associative group (e.g., punks, bloggers, indigenous youth). The study seeks to understand the agency of youth to modify or alter the status quo, recognizing subjects as historically situated co-producers of knowledge.
