Description
This project focuses on evaluating the medicinal species Ilex guayusa, traditionally known for its stimulant effects due to caffeine content. The study addresses the need to explore new uses beyond infusions and energy drinks by investigating its antioxidant potential derived from phenolic compounds. The methodology involves quantifying total phenols and total flavonoids using the Folin-Ciocalteu and AlCl3 methods, respectively. For specific flavonoid identification, advanced techniques such as HPLC-DAD and GC-der-MS will be implemented. Furthermore, in vitro antioxidant efficacy will be assessed through tests on 24 panelists divided into two age groups (20-35 and 35-50), replicating previous studies.
