Phytochemical Evaluation and Standardization of Medicinal Plant Extracts Used in the San José de Ayora-Cayambe Parish (Phase 2)

This project addresses the need to formalize and improve the use of medicinal plants in the San José de Ayora-Cayambe parish, where the agricultural sector, characterized by small landholdings (minifundios), requires economic diversification. There is a risk of losing ancestral knowledge related to these plants, despite growing global interest in natural medicine. Low production yields and the low technological level associated with their management have been identified as priority issues by the parish council and the Salesian Polytechnic University. The main objective is to evaluate and standardize the extracts of these local medicinal plants. This effort aims not only to boost the local economy by leveraging plant production but also to preserve the community's valuable traditional wisdom, contrasting existing scientific evidence on Ecuadorian plants with local practices.<br/><br/><b>Goal</b>: <br/>To evaluate and standardize the extracts of medicinal plants used by the community in the parish of San José de Ayora-Cayambe, aiming to leverage their production and recover endangered ancestral knowledge.<br/><br/><b>Research lines</b>: <br/>Biodiversity and genetic resources
