New Urbanities Built from Indigenous Mobility: Illustrated with the Case Study: Quito, Guayauil, Macas

Project Details

Description

This research project focuses on analyzing the complex exchange networks and mobility strategies that indigenous populations have woven towards and within contemporary Latin American cities, specifically Quito, Guayaquil, and Macas. The study addresses the need to understand new forms of urbanity constructed from indigenous perspectives, contrasting the traditional view of migration with the reality of long-standing, pre-colonial networks enhanced by globalization. The methodology involves an exhaustive collection of quantitative and qualitative information, both secondary (official institutions) and primary (urban indigenous organizations and individuals), given the scattered nature of existing data. Subsequently, the information will be systematically organized using a narrative matrix and validated through interviews with authorized interlocutors and intellectuals. The final goal is to produce partial reports for each city, culminating in a comprehensive final report and academic articles, debating the contemporary understanding of the city and the new urban practices generated by indigenous mobility.

Goal:
To analyze the dynamics, systems, and social insertion strategies of indigenous populations within the urban contexts of Quito, Guayaquil, and Macas.

Research lines:
Epistemologies, knowledge and interculturality
