Description
This project conducts a multidimensional assessment of the impact of climate change and extreme events on urban, rural, and strategic ecosystems in Ecuador. Given the intensification of climate phenomena that compromise water and food security, the research integrates stable isotope analysis (δ2H, δ18O, 3H) with meteorological and satellite data to characterize precipitation patterns and moisture sources.
The multidisciplinary approach allows for the evaluation of natural and anthropogenic disaster risks, identifying critical zones and proposing territorial resilience strategies. Environmental, social, and infrastructure variables are analyzed to strengthen institutional and community response capacities.
Expected outcomes include climate risk maps, water and food security diagnostics, and technical recommendations for public policy. The project, led by the GIERENA group in collaboration with GIADES and international networks, seeks to bridge scientific knowledge gaps in the country, contributing directly to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs 2, 6, and 13) through evidence-based solutions.<br/><br/><b>Goal</b>: <br/>To analyze extreme climate events through statistical and isotopic methods to determine their impacts on water security, food sovereignty, and the occurrence of natural and anthropogenic risks.
