MORENO: Remote Monitoring of Vital Signs and Applications in Telemedicine for Patients with Parkinson's Disease

This project addresses the need for an objective, low-cost evaluation method for Parkinson's Disease (PD), a progressive neurodegenerative condition characterized by motor impairments such as bradykinesia and resting tremor. Currently, the diagnosis and severity assessment of PD are predominantly subjective, relying on clinical scales. The main objective is to design and implement a pilot system that uses mobile devices to capture signals and indicators of patient body movement and posture. The methodology is structured in five phases: the first involves identifying and selecting appropriate parameters, technologies, and protocols, including a review of the state-of-the-art and analysis of medical data regulations. The second phase focuses on the design and implementation of the system's hardware and software. Subsequently, simulation tests, laboratory validation, and clinical trials with patients will be conducted. Finally, the project aims to integrate a research group in Telemedicine and publish the findings in high-impact conferences or journals. This system seeks to provide impartial judgment, convenience, and reduced costs in monitoring disease progression.<br/><br/><b>Goal</b>: <br/>To develop a system utilizing mobile devices to capture and analyze the movement and posture of patients suffering from Parkinson's disease.
