This project addresses the need to generate sustained critical analysis of media communication practices, a function historically absent in university settings in Quito, despite the previous existence of citizen observatories that are no longer regularly operational. The main objective is to establish a media observatory within the Social Communication program. The central problem is the lack of dialogic spaces that strengthen informed citizen participation and promote the right to communication. The adopted methodology is based on the concept of situated knowledge, employing a mixed approach (quantitative and qualitative). Quantitatively, records will be used, and systematic content analysis will be applied to describe trends and compare messages in print media, designing a review matrix for coders and ensuring data reliability. Qualitatively, categorical systems will be used to contrast findings with the theoretical framework, supplemented by an exhaustive review of bibliographic sources.

Goal:
To implement a media observatory within the Social Communication program by designing a specific methodological proposal for press observation focused on informative genres.

Research lines:
Media narratives
