Legal Dimension of Palliative Care in Ecuador

The project 'Legal Dimension of Palliative Care in Ecuador' addresses the critical need to evaluate the current legal framework regulating end-of-life care in the country. Under the research line of Garantism, society, and gender, this initiative seeks to identify regulatory deficiencies that hinder the full exercise of the rights of patients requiring palliative care. The research team, led by the 'Law, Justice, and Society' (GIDJS) group at the Salesian Polytechnic University, employs a socio-legal approach to examine how Ecuadorian laws protect or limit access to palliative treatments. The study focuses on the city of Quito, analyzing the intersection between current legislation and the clinical reality of patients. Expected outcomes include a proposal for regulatory reform or adjustment that allows for greater legal protection for patients and their families.
