Description
This research project focuses on the screening and isolation of microorganisms capable of biotransforming bile acids, serving as an ecological alternative to traditional chemical synthesis. Bile acids, such as ursodeoxycholic acid (used in traditional medicine for liver ailments), are currently obtained through chemical processes involving hazardous reagents, leading to significant environmental impact. The methodological approach involves culturing and isolating microorganisms using various media and reagents (including Dextrose, Tryptone, Yeast Extract, and Sabouraud agar), utilizing standard laboratory equipment such as rotavapors, centrifuges, autoclaves, and climate chambers. Successfully identifying these microorganisms will enable the development of cleaner and safer biotechnological processes for obtaining these valuable steroidal compounds, thereby minimizing the environmental footprint associated with their production.<br/><br/><b>Goal</b>: <br/>The primary objective of this project is to isolate microorganisms capable of biotransforming bile acids, specifically seeking more sustainable alternatives for the production of compounds such as ursodeoxycholic acid.<br/><br/><b>Research lines</b>: <br/>Biodiversity and genetic resources
