Description
This research project focuses on the analysis of gene expression in berries, fruits of great cultural, ecological, and economic importance in the Andean region. Given the need for more efficient post-harvest conservation methods, the study evaluates how different storage times and temperatures affect the expression of genes related to secondary metabolites, such as anthocyanins, which possess antioxidant and health-promoting properties.
Using advanced molecular techniques such as RT-qPCR, the research team, composed of professors and students from the Universidad Politécnica Salesiana (UPS), seeks to establish optimal storage protocols. This biotechnological approach allows not only to avoid harvest losses but also to ensure the nutritional quality of products for the market.
Expected results include the generation of scientific knowledge regarding gene regulation under cold stress conditions, which is fundamental for the conservation of genetic resources. The project has a multidisciplinary impact, benefiting farmers by improving post-harvest processes and providing valuable information for the food industry and the preservation of local biodiversity.<br/><br/><b>Goal</b>: <br/>Analyze the expression of genes of interest in berries under different post-harvest conditions to optimize their maintenance and conservation.
